Vida Miller

In 1980, local artist Vida Miller founded Gray Man Gallery in Pawleys Island, creating a space rooted in craftsmanship, creativity, and community. What began as a small island art and framing shop grew under her leadership into one of the Lowcountry’s most respected galleries—a cornerstone of the local arts scene for more than four decades.

An award-winning watercolorist, Vida has long been a passionate advocate for the arts in South Carolina. She is recognized as a Member with Excellence of the South Carolina Watercolor Society and has participated in regional exhibits and cultural initiatives throughout her career. Beyond her own artistic practice, she has dedicated herself to elevating and supporting other artists across the state.

Vida has served on the boards of the Waccamaw Arts and Craft Guild, the Georgetown Watercolor Society, and the South Carolina Arts Alliance. She was elected to the South Carolina Arts Foundation Board, partnering with the South Carolina Arts Commission to promote and strengthen the arts statewide. She also established the Waccamaw Neck Arts Alliance, a nonprofit that now represents more than sixty local artists.

A former state legislator, Vida played a key role in securing funding for the installation of the historic Brown’s Ferry Vessel—the oldest wooden boat in America—at the Rice Museum. Her leadership, talent, and unwavering dedication continue to enrich the South Carolina arts community and inspire generations of artists and art lovers alike.
