A Pawleys Tradition
Local Art & custom Framing Since 1980
Founded in 1980 by local artist Vida Miller, Gray Man Gallery began as a small island art and framing shop rooted in craftsmanship and community. More than 45 years later, it remains a vibrant local art gallery and custom frame shop—and a trusted Lowcountry institution. We’ve been honored to work with generations of families throughout Pawleys Island and Georgetown. What began as simple business relationships has grown into lasting friendships, many now spanning three and even four generations.
From treasured family photographs and keepsakes to fine art, every piece we frame is treated with the same care and respect we’d give our own. Our customers continue to trust us for our craftsmanship, personal service, and genuine love for this place we call home.

WHAT WE DO
At Gray Man Gallery, we offer personalized, boutique-style framing and gallery services rooted in craftsmanship, experience, and care. For over 45 years, we've approached every project with the understanding that what comes through our doors often carries meaning far beyond the object itself—family history, personal milestones, creative expression, and memory. Whether we’re designing custom framing, stretching canvas, stitch-mounting textiles, replacing glass, building shadow boxes, or handling preservation and conservation framing, our goal is always the same: to honor the story behind the piece while ensuring it’s beautifully and thoughtfully preserved for years to come. From heirlooms and original art to custom illustrations and specialty projects, we help bring each vision to life with intention and respect.

The Gray Man of Pawleys Island is a legendary ghost said to appear before hurricanes, warning residents to seek safety. Originating in the early 1800s, the tale tells of a young man who died en route to his fiancée; his spirit allegedly returned to warn her of a storm, saving her family’s home. Since then, locals have reported sightings of the Gray Man before major storms, believing his presence offers protection. Seen as a guardian rather than a threat, he has become a beloved symbol of Pawleys Island folklore and remains close to the hearts of residents and longtime visitors—especially during hurricane season.
