Nellie Peli

Sale price$1,500.00

Graceful, determined, and unmistakably coastal, Nellie Peli captures the moment just before a pelican skims the water in search of her next catch. With wings outstretched and a gaze that means business, she commands the sky with quiet confidence.

Laurie McIntosh’s bold lines and earthy palette bring this Lowcountry icon to life in rich detail—from the curve of her wings to the tilt of her beak. Hand-pulled on cotton paper using traditional linocut techniques, this piece celebrates both movement and majesty in one dramatic frame.

Whether you're a bird lover, beachcomber, or just drawn to the raw beauty of the coast, Nellie Peli makes a striking statement on any wall.

Laurie creates her linocut reductions using a bold, hands-on process that mirrors her dynamic approach to art. Working from a single block of linoleum, she carves the image in reverse, inks it with one color, and prints it onto paper. Then she carves away more of the block, inks again in a new color, and prints the next layer—building the image step by step. Because each layer removes part of the block permanently, there's no going back—an all-in method often called “suicide printing.” It’s fearless, layered, and full of energy—just like Laurie’s work.
