Summer Cypress

Summer Cypress by local artist Susan Moore is a striking diptych composed of two 12x24 acrylic paintings designed to be displayed together as one continuous visual experience. Inspired by the layered landscape of Brookgreen Gardens, the composition evokes the feeling of cypress trees rising through water, their reflections dissolving into color and movement.

Each panel stands on its own, yet the pair works in conversation—vertical forms echo across both canvases while bands of water, land, and sky shift subtly from one to the other. Rich turquoise and deep blue tones anchor the composition, while vivid hits of coral, orange, and soft green bring warmth and energy to the surface.

Moore’s process is evident throughout, with expressive brushwork, scraped textures, and layered paint creating depth and movement. The result is a piece that feels both grounded in the landscape and distinctly contemporary in its abstraction.
