The White Pelicans
The White Pelicans is an original signed reduction linocut by South Carolina artist Laurie Brownell McIntosh. Capturing a flock of American white pelicans gathered along the water's edge as one bird lifts effortlessly into flight, this striking composition celebrates both the grace of these remarkable birds and the quiet beauty of the Lowcountry coast.
Created using the traditional reduction linocut process, every color is printed by hand from the same carved block. After each layer is printed, the block is carved away again before the next color is applied, making it impossible to recreate once the edition is complete. The result is an original work of fine art—each impression is hand-pulled, individually signed and numbered by the artist, and features subtle variations that make every piece unique.
Laurie's expressive linework captures the movement of wind through feathers, while soft neutrals accented with rich charcoal, warm gold, and subtle olive create a timeless coastal palette. The sweeping wingspan of the soaring pelican contrasts beautifully with the calm gathering below, creating a composition filled with motion, balance, and character.
Professionally matted and ready for framing, The White Pelicans fits a standard 40× 30 frame, making it easy to create a custom presentation without special sizing. A favorite for bird lovers, coastal homes, and collectors of original Lowcountry artwork, this reduction linocut is a beautiful example of Laurie's celebrated printmaking and is available at Gray Man Gallery in Pawleys Island.
