"Black Skimmers" is an original reduction linocut by South Carolina artist Laurie Brownell McIntosh. Known for her mastery of the reduction printing process, McIntosh captures a pair of black skimmers in graceful flight, their reflections creating a striking sense of symmetry and movement across the water.

Like all of McIntosh's reduction linocuts, "Black Skimmers" is a hand-pulled original print created through a labor-intensive process in which each color layer is carved and printed from the same block. Because the block is progressively carved away, no additional editions can be produced once the final layer is printed.
