Flat Fred in Green
Flat Fred in Green is an original signed reduction linocut by South Carolina artist Laurie Brownell McIntosh, transforming one of the Lowcountry's most recognizable fish into a bold, contemporary work of art. Printed in layered olive, sage, and moss green inks, this iconic flounder reflects the colors of winding tidal creeks, spartina marshes, and quiet coastal waters that define life along the South Carolina coast.
Created using the traditional reduction linocut process, every layer of color is hand printed from the same carved block before additional sections are permanently removed. Because the block is gradually carved away throughout the printing process, it cannot be reused once the edition is complete. The result is a true original work of printmaking—each impression is hand-pulled, signed by the artist, and part of a limited edition that can never be reproduced.
Flat Fred has become one of Laurie McIntosh's most celebrated and recognizable images, beloved by collectors, anglers, and anyone drawn to the beauty and character of the Lowcountry. This iconic flounder would later inspire Where's Fred?, the artist's ambitious nine-panel mixed-media installation, making Flat Fred an important work within Laurie's evolving body of art.
Professionally matted and ready for framing, Flat Fred in Green fits a standard 30x40 frame, making it easy to create a custom presentation that complements your home. Whether displayed in a beach house, waterfront cottage, fishing lodge, or modern coastal interior, this striking original reduction linocut brings the spirit of the South Carolina coast to any collection.
