The Swamp Fox: America 250

Sale price$75.00

Francis Marion: America 250 is an original linocut by Lowcountry artist Aaron Baldwin, created to honor the 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026.

Known throughout history as the "Swamp Fox," Francis Marion became one of the most legendary figures of the American Revolution. Operating from the rivers, forests, and swamps of South Carolina, Marion led a series of daring guerrilla campaigns that frustrated British forces and helped shape the fight for independence in the South.

Baldwin's striking black-and-white composition places Marion on horseback deep within a flooded cypress swamp, the landscape that became both his refuge and his advantage. Strong contrasts, intricate carving, and dramatic reflections evoke the mystery and power of the Lowcountry while paying tribute to one of America's most enduring Revolutionary War heroes.

Each impression is hand-carved and hand-pulled from Baldwin's original block, preserving the character and craftsmanship that define traditional linocut printmaking. The result is a work that feels both historic and timeless—a piece equally at home in a coastal cottage, study, office, or collection of American art and history.

Created in recognition of America's Semiquincentennial, this commemorative artwork celebrates the spirit of independence, resilience, and ingenuity that helped forge a nation.

A meaningful addition for collectors of Lowcountry art, South Carolina history, Revolutionary War memorabilia, and original printmaking.
