Turkey Solo #210

Sale price$375.00

Turkey Solo #210 is an original oil on paper by local artist Retta Dotterer, giving one of the South’s most familiar wild birds a bold, painterly moment of its own. A solitary wild turkey fills the composition, its fanned tail and richly patterned feathers rendered in loose layers of earthy brown, charcoal, olive, and warm bronze, with unexpected flashes of blue and vivid red bringing its head and wattle to life.

Retta’s expressive brushwork keeps the painting lively rather than overly detailed. Broad strokes suggest the texture and movement of the turkey’s feathers, while the softly abstracted woodland background lets the bird command the scene. Her signature pink appears throughout the underpainting and along the hand-painted border, creating a contemporary contrast to the natural, earthy palette.

Painted in oil on paper, Turkey Solo #210 is a one-of-a-kind original that feels right at home in the Lowcountry. It has plenty of Southern character without feeling overly traditional, making it a fun choice for a hunting lodge, coastal home, study, kitchen, or anyone who simply appreciates the personality of our local wildlife.
