Drift Current

Sale price$75.00

Drift Current is part of Postcards from Abaco, a collection of small-scale original gouache paintings by local artist Jeanne O’Neal, inspired by her time in the Abacos, Bahamas.

In this piece, a sea turtle moves effortlessly through shallow, sunlit water, its form emerging through layered strokes of soft greens, aquas, and pale coastal blues. Rather than defining every detail, Jeanne allows the figure to take shape through gesture and color—giving the painting a sense of motion that feels immediate and fluid.

The background is alive with energy, built from loose, expressive marks that mimic the shifting patterns of light beneath the surface. Subtle variations in tone and texture create depth, while the turtle itself feels both grounded and in motion, suspended in a quiet, drifting moment.

Painted in gouache on paper, this 6×6 original has a fresh, airy quality that reflects the spontaneity of working on location. It’s a piece that feels collected rather than composed—like a memory captured in passing.

Designed to fit standard frames—like the ones we carry here at Gray Man Gallery—it’s perfect on its own or grouped with others from the collection.
