Breaking Light
Breaking Light captures a fleeting, dramatic shift in the Abacos sky, when clouds part just enough for sunlight to stream through in long, luminous rays. Painted by local artist Jeanne O’Neal, this original gouache leans into contrast—cool blues and stormy grays above, softened by pale water and a quiet stretch of shoreline below.
The composition is anchored by a small cluster of palms, but it’s the sky that commands attention. Bold streaks of light cut through layered clouds, creating movement and energy that feels both sudden and fleeting. Jeanne’s loose, expressive brushwork allows the moment to stay atmospheric rather than overly defined, giving the piece a sense of immediacy.
Part of the Postcards from Abaco collection, this work reflects the kind of coastal moment that shifts quickly—storm giving way to light, tension softening into calm. Its small scale makes it easy to display on its own or as part of a collected grouping.
Sized to fit a standard frame—like the ones we carry here at Gray Man Gallery—Breaking Light is a small original with a strong sense of movement, contrast, and place.
