Alice - A Pawleys Island Legend

Sale price$35.00

Alice – A Pawleys Island Legend is a haunting and beautifully detailed print by beloved local artist Charles Huber, capturing one of Pawleys Island’s most enduring stories of love, loss, and lingering spirit. The image depicts Alice Flagg, a young woman whose tragic tale has been passed down through generations and remains woven into the island’s folklore.

In the 1800s, Alice fell in love with a man her family deemed unsuitable. When her secret engagement was discovered, her ring was taken from her, and shortly thereafter Alice fell gravely ill and died. She was buried at All Saints Church beneath a simple stone marked only “Alice.” Legend holds that her spirit still wanders the church grounds in search of her lost ring, and to this day visitors leave rings at her grave—hoping to honor her memory or receive a blessing.

Huber’s artwork captures the quiet mystique of the legend with Alice’s ghostly figure drifting through the historic churchyard, her flowing gown rendered in soft, luminous tones against the tranquil Lowcountry landscape. Both atmospheric and deeply rooted in local history, this print is a meaningful keepsake for Pawleys Island lovers, folklore enthusiasts, and anyone drawn to stories that live on through place and memory.

A longtime favorite at Gray Man Gallery, Alice – A Pawleys Island Legend is an accessible and evocative piece of Lowcountry history—perfect for gifting, collecting, or bringing a touch of Pawleys lore into your home.
