Maura Kenny

Maura H. Kenny, painter and art educator has lived and practiced most of her career while living in Pawleys Island, SC. Her paintings over the last ten years have been almost exclusively done in watercolor and mixed media and she has been investigating the concept of ‘place’ throughout her painting career. Memories of a New England childhood where the four seasons were distinct and perceptible and where her large family lived have undoubtedly contributed to the sensibilities that connect her to this recurring motif. The lowcountry of South Carolina, her home now for over forty-four years has been highlighted often in her repertoire of paintings and it continues to be an inspiration. Figurative, portrait and botanical paintings are also found in her broad portfolio of subject matter and content.

Maura retired from the Department of Visual Arts at Coastal Carolina University in 2018 as Distinguished Professor Emeritus where she taught Painting, Drawing and Art Education Courses for over 30 years. She earned a BS in Art Education from Southern Connecticut State University and an MFA in Painting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  Maura’s paintings have been juried into many regional, national and international exhibitions winning awards at all of these levels.
