Joanne Willoughby
Creating art is my true passion. Through my work, I aim to capture the delicate play of light across meadows and marshes, or the way a sunrise or sunset transforms the beach or wetlands into glowing hues of red and gold. I find joy in painting waves and surf, as well as sketching portraits—especially in charcoal, which, along with pastels, oil, and watercolor, is one of my favorite mediums.
I’m always eager to explore new techniques and experiment with combining different mediums: layering watercolors or oil washes beneath pastels, using acrylic monoprints under pastel, or mixing cold wax medium into my oils. Learning from artists with diverse approaches is important to me, and I have been fortunate to take many workshops and classes with nationally and internationally recognized artists.
My greatest hope is that you enjoy my art and discover something that speaks to you—that happiness is the heart of my work. I’m proud to be a member of the Pastel Society of America, the American Impressionist Society, the American Women Artists group, and local pastel societies. I also serve as a board member of the Waccamaw Neck Arts Alliance and belong to the Georgetown Watercolor Society.
